101.5 News Story (May 14, 2008) Video Help: The video above is in the Windows Media Format. To view the video, you need to have Windows Media Player installed on your computer. Windows Media Player is automatically installed if you are using a Windows operating system. If you are using the Macintosh operating system, you may need to download Windows Media Player for Macintosh. As a convenience, we've provided direct links from Microsoft.
If this doesn't work for your Windows OS, your Windows Media Player may not be automatically updating the codecs. To check this, open Windows Media Player, go to Tools, and choose "Options." Make sure that your player is marked to check for updates "Once a day" and to "Download codecs automatically." Then click on "Apply" and "OK." You can also go to http://www.microsoft.com/downloads and select "Windows Media." From here you can choose to download the "Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1 or later."
Thanks to all for speaking out for
the animals at our Ringling Bros. Demo at the Izod Center in
mid-April. We educated a lot of circus patrons, in particular
Joel Schwartzberg, NJ.com blogger. Read his blog,
“The Sadist Show on Earth.” We
opened Joel's eyes to the plight of animals in the circus. He
writes "I'll probably steer myself and my family toward
non-animal circuses in the future. All beasts deserve a
free-to-roam home in their natural habitats, be it in a wildlife
preserve, the jungle, or -- in the case of our cats -- the
master bedroom." Be sure to post a comment. NJARA was on Animal Talk radio on Sunday April 20 to discuss the circus along with Tom Rider (former Ringling employee, whistle-blower) who discussed the Federal lawsuit against Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus under the Endangered Species Act. The suit alleges that Ringling Bros. mistreats and abuses the Asian elephants it uses in shows all across the country.
The Animal Welfare Institute, and
it's co-plaintiffs include the American Society for the
Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the Fund for Animals, the
Animal Protection Institute and former Ringling employee, Tom Rider. Trial is to commence sometime this year. Tom Rider has a big heart and is doing everything he can to free those elephants from Ringling. At least 25 endangered Asian elephants have died and how many more must die for Ringling’s circus?
